Fever on fire

In the adjusted words of the immortal Jerry Lee Lewis–

“We chew our nails and we twiddle our thumbs

Real nervous, but it sure is fun

Come on, Fever, drive us crazy

Goodness gracious, great balls of FIRE!”

Jerry Lee Lewis

As the WNBA regular season approaches its conclusion on September 19, 2024, attention is turning toward the much-anticipated playoffs, which kick off just three days later on September 22. This pivotal time of the year brings excitement, as teams vie for the championship title, and Fever fans eagerly await news they get to follow their team into the playoffs.

With playoffs set to begin on September 22, 2024, this quick transition ensures that the intensity of the regular season rolls straight into the high stakes of the postseason.

With the playoffs in just a few weeks, it’s important for fans to stay updated on the latest team standings. The official WNBA website provides up-to-date standings, including win-loss records, playoff positioning, and tie-breaking scenarios. As teams fight for the best possible seeding, these standings will be the go-to resource for fans tracking their team’s progress.

Playoff Format

The WNBA’s playoff format includes the top eight teams from the regular season, seeded based on their records. The first two rounds are single-elimination games, adding an extra layer of excitement and unpredictability. The semifinals and finals follow a best-of-five format, where consistency and depth will play significant roles in determining the championship winner.

As a refresher, the top eight teams, regardless of conference affiliation, make the playoffs in the WNBA. Under the current playoff format, the teams are placed into a standard bracket with the No. 1 seed playing No. 8 in the first round, No. 2 vs. No. 7 and so on. Teams will play a best-of-three series in the first round and best-of-five series in the semifinals and finals. Notably, the first round is a 2-1 format, which means the higher seed gets the first two games at home, while the lower seed gets the deciding Game 3 at home should the series go that far. In the semifinals and Finals, it is a standard 2-2-1 format, with the higher seed hosting Games 1, 2 and 5, if necessary.

The Fever

The Indiana Fever, currently in sixth place, looks capable of making the playoffs even though they haven’t been there since 2016. Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston have been instrumental in keeping the Fever in playoff contention. As always, the play of rookie Caitlin Clark, the 2024 No. 1 draft pick, elevates her teammates and dominates the court. Clark is averaging 18.7 points and 8.4 assists per game while shooting 42.4% from the field and 34.1% from beyond the arc.
The Fever have won the last four games and have the best post-Olympic records in the league.  Join the Yosha Snyder Group in cheering for our local heroes, the Indiana Fever.
