It’s a Monday morning, and sitting on our back deck I had the joy of hummingbirds and a family of deer visiting the backyard. As I sit having breakfast, I am surrounded by the peace and tranquility of nature and the calmness of the lake. It feels like there is not a soul around and no worries to fret over. I am in my own little world at our little lake cabin in the woods. It is a rustic paradise, much like living in a treehouse in nature. This is Heritage Lake. And if you need an escape, this is the PLACE. This private lake community is only an hour from Indy. If you are like most these days, you probably have a very busy schedule and have trouble committing to several days to getaway. But what if your escape was only one hour away, you could come out to enjoy and relax for the day, only to return to reality at night, but coming back refreshed with a new fresh perspective.
So what makes Heritage Lake so special? It’s the community, the beauty, and the amenities. This place has it all. Starting with the people, there is not a nicer bunch of people to call neighbors. If you need random help, there is always someone willing to step up and help. Random example, early in the morning a resident accidentally got locked in her shed while feeding her rabbit. Solution was she posted a SOS on the Heritage Lake Neighborhood community page, if someone could come over to her property and let her out. Within minutes she not only had one but several neighbors heading over to help. That is a true story, but a perfect example how our community steps up and helps each when in need. Besides the awesome neighbors, we also have the best staff all around the lake. Whether it’s our property manager, ladies at our POA office, staff at the marina, lake water security, these people are invested in our community and work tirelessly to help in anyway. Many volunteers contribute by giving countless hours to organizing clubs, community activities, and organizations all with the goal of making this place an awesome place to call home. We have a Book Club, Garden Club, Homemakers, Club, and a Car Club. We have an organization who monitors the water quality to insure it is healthy. Plus the community pulls together to organize year round family fun: fireworks, lakeside concerts, water aerobics, fishing tournaments, ski show, Holiday Bazaar, Boat Poker Run, Easter Egg Hunt, Trunk of Treat, pickle ball and the list goes on. There is literally something for everyone.

The Best Lake Community in Indiana
Heritage Lake is a beautiful 320 acre lake only about 30 miles west of Indianapolis. It is close and convenient to many another communities, Greencastle, Crawfordsville, Danville. Although Heritage Lake has so many great activities to take a part of, it is great to know that you are centrally located to many other towns if you desire to take a day trip and participate in activities at nearby communities. The lake is surrounded by the natural beauty of mature larges trees, often you will get a glimpse of bald eagles who like the area as well. Boating around the lake you will not only appreciate its natural beauty, but also the beauty of the outdoor living spaces the waterfront homeowners have created. They certainly have not held back in creating their backyard oasis for all to enjoy from the boat view. For the perfect lake day without a boat, the community has 3 different sandy beaches complete with playgrounds and shelters. On the water, people enjoy kayaking, fishing, paddleboarding, boating, skiing, tubing, and even just parking the boat and swimming. The lake is stocked and perfect for fishing. The water level is pretty constant, every so often they will lower the level at the end of the season for boat launch or dock maintenance. The community is divided in sections: Lincoln Hills, Patriots Landing, Victory Hill, Gettysburg , Mill Springs, and Jefferson Valley. Driving around the lake, you will quickly notice that each home is unique. There are the older original homes, those that have been remodeled and newer homes, each one with their unique style.
Heritage Lake has so many amenities to offer its residents. We have a swimming pool, sand volleyball court, lighted basketball court, tennis/pickle ball court, Waterfront Clubhouse and Activity Center (also available for private rental), newly built marina, gas station for on water fueling up, boat ramp, 3 sandy beaches with playgrounds and pavilions. The POA fee is $260 yearly and you will be issued a POA membership ID card that allows you and your guests to enjoy the community amenities. A major appeal of our lake is that it is private. Only homeowners with a POA card may get a registration sticker to allow their boat on the water. In order to purchase a boat sticker, you will need to pass a boat safety test, plus provide other identifying information and proof of insurance. There is on water lake security. They are there to help in case you need a tow or help monitor to make sure boating rules are followed to keep things safe. This year a concrete pad was installed for the many lakeside concerts. These concerts are hugely popular, you will come by boat, car or golf cart to enjoy. Also new this year is Sahm’s Haven Restaurant which is housed in the newly built marina. It has a upper and lower deck to dine by the water. The restaurant is part of the Sahm’s restaurants located throughout Indianapolis. It is the only part of the community open to the public.
We have been homeowners out here for the last 10 years. Every year, I feel it gets better and better. If enjoying lake living peaks your interest, please reach out I would be happy to help you. Depending on the location and size, you can find homes within all price ranges. Sometimes you can find land lot home under $200,000 and the waterfront homes vary based on size, recently ones sold around $600,000. There is definitely a wide price range, so could definitely find one that fits your budget. All homes whether land lot or waterfront get access to the lake and all the great community amenities. I could even find you a lot if building your lake retreat is something you desire. With more people staying at home this past year, people want more from their backyard for family fun. Nothing beats a lake in a great community filled with tons of activities and amenities.
